Merry Christmas, Momma

Many's the time from day to day, year to year...
Especially, around the holidays,
I begin to think about Momma
And wish she were here.
I can just picture us all together...
Autumn, Emilie, Sydney, and Ashlee,
Her granddaughters, filling her life with fun and laughter!
Four little girls to keep her young and spry.
Her face lighting up
At the sound of their laughter and putting stars in her eyes!
They would be the joy of her life,
Cause Momma always said,
"Little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice.!"
I can remember the smell of Daddy's Christmas turkey,
Momma always insisted he bake...
And Momma's yelllow cornbread(for the dressing)
Was better than anyone else could ever make!
I just think that would be the greatest thing in the world;
If "Granny" could be here to share
Christmas with these four little girls!
I would like to see
Their eyes as "Poppa Ray"
Lit the Christmas Tree like he used to do for Julie and me.
And I can just imagine them on Christmas morning,
Scampering through the house.
Each one trying to be as quiet
As a church mouse.
Each little face anxiously awaiting
For "Poppa Ray" to hurry and pass all the presents out!
Each one tearing open
"Poppa and Granny's" gift first cause it would be the best, no doubt!
And each gift is met with,
"Oh, thank you, Granny and Poppa! Y'all are the best!"
Then Daddy and Momma smile and Daddy would say,
"You are welcome, my sweet angels!
For it is Granny and I who are truly blessed!"
I know that is can never be...
Cause it has been twenty-one years now
Since Momma went to Heaven.
I am thirty-three...
I lost Momma when I was eleven.
Yes, Momma is in Heaven...
Hopefully, looking down at the rest of the family and me.
I like to think she is the Angel at the top of my tree...
And I like to think her spirit is with my always...
Not just during the holidays.
Merry Christmas, Momma!
And here's to another year
Without you being here.
