No One Ventures A Word

In the darknes of the night
the rain falls down my window pane.
One small light is burning
at the head of my bed.
Only the roar of thunder can be heard.
Everything is so quiet
  as the night rolls on
    and then...
     the wind begins to moan.
The thunder roars again in answer to the moans.
The whistle of a train is heard at a distance
    then it slowly ceases
     as the rain eases.
Thunder roars again, but the wind is quiet.
Now only the patter of raindrops is heard.
No one makes a sound; no one ventures a word.
Thunder roars again, but gets no reply.
I turn out the light with a sigh.
The sky goes from gray to black
    when lightening makes its
     irridescent crack.
Only the roar of thunder can be heard...
No one makes a sound; no one ventures a word.
